April 2009- Recipe of the Month-Pretzel Day

APRIL 26 is Pretzel Day!  Children love pretzels, and history shows that they have been around for a LONG time.
We have two recipes for you.

Dipped Pretzel Rods

Ingredients Needed:

Chocolate Chips or Melting Candy Wafers
Rod Pretzels
Assorted sprinkles, jimmies, small candies or nuts

Equipment needed:

Small bowl (to melt chocolate)
Spatula
Waxed Paper
Microwave
Knife or popsicle stick for spreading chocolate
shaker or small spoons for sprinkles

Directions:

Wash and dry hands.
Pour the chocolate chips or wafers in a microwaveable bowl.
Microwave on high for two minutes, stirring after one minute. (If necessary, repeat for one minute more).
Spread chocolate on 1/2 of the pretzel rod.
Sprinkle with choice of toppings.
Let cool on waxed paper ( you can put the waxed paper on a cookie sheet, and then transfer the pretzels to the refrigerator for 10 minutes to harden the chocolate).
